My daughter s iphone 5 screen cracked, presumably from the heat, it was not dropped. Has anyone else had this experience.

Take it to Apple and see if you can convient them it happened that way.

Taking an iPhone into an unsafe operating temperature could cause dendrites to form in the battery, and when the battery expands, the screen could crack.

Info about safe operating temperatures can be found here:

The high was 107 today where I live, and my iPhone s screen didn t crack while I was outside and the same when entering my truck with the internal temperature there well over 107.

Even my IPhone heats when I speak for more than 10mins. When I talk to customer service they tell me to approach apple store and the store is 20 miles away. Why the should I travel so long to show this device.

Why the should I travel so long to show this shitti device.

Then don t.  But then don t whine and complain.

It happened with my iPhone 4. I haven t drop it.

Dropping the iPhone isn t the only way for the screen to crack.  An impact from something else to the device, or excessive pressure, or excessive temperature changes can all cause damage to an iPhone s screen.

Some iPhone 5 s have battery issues. It isn t very common for the screen to crack due to heat, but it does still happen. Apple has a program where they will fix the battery for free. Just go to this link and see if you are eligible.

However, even if they are eligible for the battery replacement, they will have to pay to have the screen fixed first.

I am reading a LOT about this phone on the net. I have to decide if I am keeping my LG OGP or getting this before 5pm.

I LOVE the OGP but, honestly its a little Too big.

I am worried, people are saying the S4 over heats a Lot. and many are saying the screen is cracking in their pocket. the screen cracking seems to be happening a lot as well.

Any thoughts on this. anyone had these issues.

Also phone gets warm when I am playing games. When I am charging the battery it gets a little warm also. No overheating though.

No issues with overheating. Mine got a little warm when I was trying to download all my apps on to my GS4 when I first got it. We are talking 10 to 15 at a time until they were all installed. Under normal use though, no overheating. The GS4 comes with Gorilla Glass 3. If you have a case, it will additional rigidity to the device. I have an Otterbox Defender case on mine and keep it in my back pocket almost all the time.

thanks for quick reply. I most likely wont use a case at all. I never have liked cases on my phones.

Good to hear no heating issues. I don t wear skinny jeans either. and I NEVER have anything in my pocket with my phone and I use my front pocket. never my back pocket because I may sit down on it and break it.

The phone is quite slippery though. I baby mine but I ve had it slip out of my hands a couple times and out of my lap a couple times onto the carpet, a real slim cheap case might not be a bad idea just for a bit of grip. That being said I m still rocking mine naked but I am definitely getting a case. I ll just slip it off when i crave a more intimate experience. Ha.

I just dropped my S4, went to pick something up and it dropped out of my shirt pocket, so 2 or 3 feet onto a tile floor. Sounded like it landed flat on its face, Screen is now spider-webbed with cracks. Still works so far, but I; not optimistic. I can feel the cracks if I run a finger along it. No insurance, but I m going to AT T tomorrow to see if they;ll replace it. I just got it last week ---trad3ed in a Galaxy Skyrocket that I dropped on a regular basis with no ill effects, so there is a build quality question here.

I use the phone as a hotspot - no other internet access available where I live - and have left it on for long periods, plugged in to AC, with no overheating problems..

1. Mine very occasionally becomes warm when under heavy CPU demand. But it s similar to my iPhone 5, so no real issue or concern there.

2. First phone that I have not added a screen protector. Gorilla glass 3 seems pretty rock solid. No scratches or cracks even though I ve dropped it a few times. Also keep mine in my jeans pocket a lot with keys and coins, although I do have a s view cover.

All screens can crack. I just ran a Google search for the S4, iPhone and the HTC One. They all had reports of screen cracking. There is even a potential class action lawsuit against Apple for cracked screens. But if you are worried about it don t get a phone that is almost impossible to repair. Check out the repair-ability of any phone you might decide to try at Gadget Teardowns - iFixit The Galaxy S4 is one of the easiest phones to replace the screen/digitizer on.

Edit: BTW no overheating on my S4.

I dont even use my phone got it last week left it in glove box while camping with kids took it iut and has a crack from top to bottom which really disappointed me csuse I do like the phone hope tmobile corrects this issue with me found the replacement kit on ebay wuth all the tools to complete screen swap for 23 so guess thats not bad just sucks cause I have only had the phone for under a week now

Screens don t crack unless they are met with impact or exposed to prolonged extreme heat. I have seen a couple of reports where the s4 screen has cracked in a pocket but I believe that was due to pressure or flexing of the device. I don t think you have anything to worry about. As far as heat I ve had the Galaxy S,S2,S3 and now the S4 and the S4 runs cooler than any of the previous Galaxy s I ve had.

Any thoughts on this. anyone had these issues. I had no problems with overheating until a couple of weeks ago. One afternoon I was playing a basic 2D game Jewels Star and noticed it was getting excessively hot very hot to the touch through a case that came with the phone. I stopped playing the game to let it cool down. The morning of the following day, I sent a message to the wife and placed the S4 on my desk. I came back to it an hour and a half later and tried to access the phone but was unable to due to only half the screen was illuminating. That is when I noticed 2 cracks in the LCD one on each end. The Gorilla Glass was fine. I have no idea how the cracks got there. I only keep the phone in my pocket when I am standing and walking around. If I am sitting or I am going to do some work that requires bending, lifting, etc., the phone is removed from my pocket. I did drop it once about a week after I received it but the case absorbed the shock and all was fine. Samsung refused to fix it and that was expected. I think they automatically assume if the LCD is cracked it must have come from an external source and hence not covered by the warranty. Now I have a 650 paperweight. I suppose I could pay the 199 deductible to att but don t know if I want to Tired of feeding the Giants.

Good thing my Infuse still works and that thing never had a case, has been dropped several times cement, asphalt, tile, carpet and slipped out of a pocket right into the toilette once clean water folks. Maybe QC is an issue with the S4, I don t know. Was also wondering if anybody else had issues similar with the S4.

Thanks for the heads up on the ifixit site. Awesome. Going to fix up a few things and upgrade some internals. Yeah
